Edizioni Mediterranee is an independent publishing house based in Rome and founded in 1953 from the reorganization of Casa Editrice Mediterranea working since the Thirties. At the beginning the catalogue of Edizioni Mediterranee included books on fine arts, fiction, popular science and sport.Starting from the Sixties the publishing house widens its interests in the fields of parapsychology, alchemy, occultism, alternative therapies and it is the first publisher in Italy to introduce - for what concerns sport series - all kind of martial arts in its catalogue.
Thanks to the impulse given by the publisher, Giovanni Canonico, over the years the production has considerably increased, thus allowing Edizioni Mediterranee, that has always been an independent publisher, to gain the first place in Italy in the fields of esotericism, parapsychology, occult sciences, spiritualism, astrology, yoga, zen, meditation, magic, alternative therapies, medical herbs, ayurveda, homeopathy, aromatherapy, crystal therapy, sexology and others.
The sport catalogue, mostly oriented on martial arts and all their different disciplines (karate, kung fu, judo, ju-jitsu, ninja, tae-kwon-do, aikido etc.), includes also works dedicated to other sport activities and to general physical training for all sports (stretching, body-building, weight lifting, balance exercises, etc.) other than a rich collection of nature-sport books dedicated to rock climbing and mountain.
In the Seventies a new publishing house was founded: Hermes Edizioni, whose catalogue offers series specialized in natural therapies, channelling and many other topical subjects. A further enlargement takes place when Arkeios Edizioni joins the publishing group with a catalogue that includes works on Eastern and Western religions, philosophy and symbolism and with the admission of Edizioni Studio Tesi.
